Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does “neurodiversity-affirming” mean?
We recognize and respect that every brain works differently. Instead of trying to “fix” differences, we celebrate each person’s unique strengths, communication style, and sensory needs. Therapy is collaborative, respectful, and tailored to each client’s authentic way of being.

2. What kinds of therapy do you offer?
We provide individual speech and language therapy for children and adolescents, focusing on communication, self-advocacy, and functional skills. Our work includes support for autistic individuals, gestalt language processors, children with speech sound differences, and those with social communication, language, or sensory-based needs.

3. Do you accept insurance?
We are a private-pay clinic and do not bill insurance directly. However, we can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

4. Why are you private pay?
Private pay allows us to focus on individualized, high-quality care without the restrictions that insurance companies may place on therapy type, frequency, or duration. It also ensures we can use approaches that are evidence-based and affirming, even if they are not covered by insurance.

5. What is included in the session fee?
Your fee covers not only direct therapy time, but also planning, preparation of individualized materials, progress monitoring, and collaboration with families and other professionals.

6. Where does therapy take place?
Therapy is held in a cozy, designated therapy space within the therapist’s home. The environment includes a sensory swing, yoga ball, movement cushions, a sensory bin, and other supports to make sessions engaging and regulation-friendly.

7. What ages do you work with?
We currently serve children ages 2–12, with a focus on early communication development, school-age language skills, and social connection.

8. How long are sessions?
Session length varies depending on age, attention span, and goals—typically 30 or 45 minutes.

9. How do you involve families?
Families are key partners in therapy! We provide regular updates, strategy suggestions, and collaborative planning so skills can be supported at home and in the community.

10. What should my child bring to therapy?
Just themselves! If there’s a comfort item, preferred toy, or AAC device your child uses, you’re welcome to bring it along.

11. Do you offer parent coaching or consultations?
Yes. We offer parent coaching sessions, either in-person or virtually, to help families support communication and regulation strategies outside of therapy.

12. How do I get started?
Contact us to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. From there, we can set up an initial evaluation and create a plan that fits your child’s needs and goals.
